Ogun Police Arrest Suspect in Igbesa Motorcyclist Murder Case
Detectives from the Igbesa Division of the Ogun State Police Command have made a significant arrest in connection with the murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Igbesa, Ogun State. The suspect, identified as Chidi Ebere, aged 27, was apprehended following a violent incident that occurred early yesterday morning.
Details of the Incident
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Oluseyi Babaseyi, the tragic event unfolded at approximately 7:00 a.m. on the morning of the incident. The suspect reportedly boarded a motorcycle operated by the victim, Sunday Ogbu, who was 36 years old. During the ride, Chidi Ebere allegedly attacked Ogbu in an attempt to snatch the motorcycle, leading to a violent struggle between the two individuals.
A witness at the scene quickly raised the alarm, alerting nearby residents and prompting police operatives to rush to the location. Upon arrival, the police found the victim in critical condition and immediately rescued him. He was taken to a hospital for urgent medical attention, but despite efforts to save his life, the doctor on duty later confirmed that Sunday Ogbu had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Arrest and Evidence Recovery
The suspect, Chidi Ebere, was immediately arrested at the scene by the responding police officers. In addition to the arrest, law enforcement officials recovered the motorcycle involved in the incident, as well as a knife that was allegedly used in the attack. These items have been secured as exhibits to support the ongoing investigation and potential prosecution.
DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi further stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) located in Eleweran, Abeokuta. This transfer is part of standard procedure to ensure a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the murder, with the aim of building a strong case for prosecution in court.

In response to this heinous crime, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, has strongly condemned the incident.
