Oyo Police Uncover and Dismantle Major Forgery Operation
In a significant breakthrough, the Oyo State Police Command has successfully apprehended a group of ten individuals who were operating a highly organized syndicate specializing in the forgery of official documents, stamps, and certificates from various government and private organizations. This operation marks a critical step in combating document fraud within the state.
Intelligence-Led Operation Leads to Arrests
According to an official statement released by the command, on April 9, 2026, police officers received actionable intelligence indicating that the suspects were conducting their illicit activities from a concealed hideout located in the Ogunpa area of Ibadan. Acting promptly on this information, a coordinated police operation was launched, resulting in the swift arrest of the following individuals:
- Mumini Akanbi, male, 62 years old
- Quadri Muhammed, 31 years old
- Salami Tajudeen, 50 years old
- Oladipupo Hammed, 45 years old
- Oladipupo Taiwo, 40 years old
- Olorunosebi Kazzeem, 42 years old
- Fatai Akanni, 54 years old
- Alamu Kazeem, 60 years old
- Olalekan Afeez, 42 years old
- Alex Olanrewaju, 64 years old
Recovery of Incriminating Evidence
Confirming the arrests to journalists, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Alayande Olayinka, detailed that following the apprehension of the suspects, search warrants were executed at their operational bases. This led to the seizure of numerous incriminating exhibits, which included:
- A printed fake Police Character Certificate
- Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID) stamps
- Ogun State CID Eleweran Office stamp
- Iyaganku Area Command Office stamp
- Various Divisional Police Officer office stamps
- Oyo State Government stamps from different ministries and departments
- Stamps of different commercial banks
- Stamps belonging to several private organizations
Syndicate's Criminal Activities and Confessions
DSP Olayinka emphasized that preliminary investigations have revealed the suspects are members of a well-organized criminal syndicate deeply involved in the production and utilization of forged instruments, primarily for the purpose of impersonation. He further stated that all ten suspects have openly confessed to their active participation in this extensive criminal enterprise. They are currently cooperating with law enforcement by providing valuable information to assist in the ongoing investigations, which aim to uncover the full scope of their operations and identify any additional accomplices.
This crackdown underscores the Oyo State Police Command's commitment to tackling document fraud and maintaining the integrity of official and private sector processes in the region.
