Oyo Intensifies Enforcement Against Illegal Livestock Trading and Open Grazing
Oyo Ramps Up Action on Illegal Livestock Trading, Grazing

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has ramped up its enforcement operations against the illegal sale and open grazing of livestock in unauthorized areas throughout the state. This intensified action follows a series of public sensitization jingles jointly broadcast by OYRLEA and the Association of Livestock Dealers and Breeders, which warned residents and traders against selling sheep, rams, and goats at unapproved locations. The jingles also advised traders and livestock owners to obtain a list of authorized trading points from the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development.

Enforcement Operations in Ibadan

As part of the ongoing enforcement exercise, officers of the Authority on Friday conducted operations in the Liberty area and along the Elekuro High School axis on Akanran Road, Ibadan. The team took action against individuals who had failed to comply with the directive and continued trading livestock in prohibited areas. During the operation, enforcement officers also intercepted livestock that were openly grazing around the Sawmill Onipepeye area while returning from the mission. This act was found to be a violation of the Oyo State Anti-Open Rearing and Grazing Law.

Impounded Animals and Warning

At the conclusion of the operation, a total of seven rams and one goat were impounded by the Authority. OYRLEA reiterated its commitment to enforcing laws concerning environmental sanitation, public order, and livestock management across Oyo State. The agency urged residents and livestock owners to strictly comply with government regulations to avoid sanctions. The authority emphasized that continued non-compliance would result in further enforcement actions and penalties.
