Police Apprehend Two Suspects in Connection with Ekiti State University Hostel Robbery

In a swift response to criminal activity, the Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two suspects allegedly involved in a robbery attack targeting private hostels of students from Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti. The incident, which has raised concerns about off-campus security, occurred in the early hours of Saturday, prompting immediate police action.

Details of the Robbery and Arrest

According to the Police Public Relations Officer for the Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu, the robbery took place around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday at student hostels located off-campus in Iworoko. Abutu explained in a statement that the arrest was made possible through the diligent efforts of the Iworoko Police Division, which tracked the perpetrators to their hideout following a distress call.

Abutu stated, "At about 2.30 am on Saturday, a distress call was received from students’ hostels, off campus, Iworoko, indicating that some suspected robbers had broken into their accommodations, forcibly collected their phones, and fled with the stolen items."

He added, "Upon receipt of the information, Police operatives from Iworoko Division swiftly swung into action, trailed the culprits to their hideouts, and arrested two individuals, while others managed to escape."

Suspects' Confessions and Ongoing Investigation

During interrogation, the two arrested suspects, identified as Abdulraman Abdulmumini, aged 26, and Abdulsalam Oseni, aged 31, confessed to their involvement in the crime. They also provided information about other gang members who are currently at large, aiding police in their pursuit.

Abutu emphasized, "Investigation is underway, and the arrested suspects are cooperating by providing necessary information that will assist in the possible arrest of the fleeing suspects as well as the recovery of other stolen items."

The state Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, has urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with credible information. This collaboration is seen as crucial in helping the command arrest criminal elements and curb such activities in the region.
