The Nasarawa State Police Command has officially refuted claims of a herdsmen attack disrupting a religious crusade in Agboda village, revealing that the clergyman behind the viral video is now in custody and has admitted to fabricating the story.
Police Investigation Reveals True Incident
According to police spokesperson SP Ramhan Nansel, preliminary investigation uncovered that the actual incident occurred on November 24, 2025, at approximately 7:00 PM. The Divisional Police Officer of Mararaba Udege Division received a report about a motorcyclist being attacked by unknown persons along a feeder road leading to Agboda Village.
The victim sustained a machete cut during the robbery, and his motorcycle was taken by the assailants. Upon receiving the report, the DPO immediately coordinated with local vigilante members, who joined police in pursuing the suspects.
Recovery and Arrest Developments
The criminals eventually abandoned the stolen motorcycle and fled the area. The injured victim was quickly rushed to the hospital, where he is currently responding to treatment, while the motorcycle was successfully recovered by authorities.
Further investigation led police to Evangelist Daniel Ukpo, the clergyman responsible for creating and circulating the viral video claiming herdsmen had attacked a crusade. Ukpo is presently in police custody and has provided crucial information about the misinformation.
Clergyman Admits to False Claims
During questioning, Daniel Ukpo confirmed that no herdsmen attack occurred and that no crusade was disrupted as he had initially claimed in his video. The clergyman explained that upon learning about the robbery incident, residents rushed to the scene, during which he recorded the video that later became misrepresented online.
The police spokesperson emphasized that the viral video in circulation does not reflect the true situation in Agboda Village and that no herdsmen attack occurred anywhere in Nasarawa State as claimed.
Police Commissioner's Appeal to Public
State Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has called on religious leaders to use their platforms to promote peace and harmony within the state and the country at large. The commissioner specifically urged leaders to refrain from making statements capable of inciting tension.
The police command also appealed to journalists and members of the public to practice patriotism by verifying information before publication and to avoid spreading unverified or sensational reports that could cause public panic.
The command reassured the public of its continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout Nasarawa State, while encouraging residents to report any suspicious activities through appropriate channels rather than resorting to social media speculation.
