Yobe Police Command Apprehends Two Suspects in Damaturu for Murder and Drug-Related Crimes
The Yobe State Police Command has made significant arrests in Damaturu, the state capital, detaining two suspects for alleged murder and drug abuse-related offences. The suspects, identified as Musa Mohammed, aged 24, and Ibrahim Abdullahi, aged 32, are accused of using an axe and other dangerous weapons in the fatal attacks on Adamu Suleiman Saidu, 33, and Abdullahi Musa, 20.
Details of the First Incident: Axe Attack Linked to Substance Abuse
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Dungus Abdulkarim, the command's spokesperson, a distress report was received at the 'A' Division Police in Damaturu on April 7, 2026, at approximately 2:10 PM. The report concerned a violent assault that had occurred around 6:30 PM in the Bindigari Primary School area of Damaturu metropolis.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, Adamu Suleiman Saidu, was allegedly attacked by Musa Mohammed, also known as 'Aljan', following a misunderstanding believed to be connected to substance abuse. During the altercation, the suspect reportedly used an axe to inflict severe head injuries on the victim, while the suspect himself sustained minor injuries in the scuffle.
Police operatives swiftly mobilized to the scene, arrested Musa Mohammed, and recovered the axe used in the crime, which has been registered as an exhibit. The victim was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Damaturu for medical attention but tragically succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
Second Incident: Fatal Fight Over Borrowed T-Shirt
In a related case, the police arrested Ibrahim Abdullahi following the death of Abdullahi Musa during a fight over a borrowed T-shirt on April 5, 2026, around 1:30 PM. Officers attached to the 'C' Division in Damaturu responded promptly to a distress call involving a violent confrontation between the two individuals, both residents of Abari.
During the altercation, punches were exchanged, causing one of the parties to fall unconscious. Police operatives rushed the victim to the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, where medical personnel confirmed his death. This led to the arrest of Ibrahim Abdullahi, with investigations ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
Police Response and Community Appeal
SP Abdulkarim emphasized the command's commitment to combating crime and criminality across Yobe State, noting a continued reduction in crime rates as a testament to sustained community cooperation and support. He urged parents, community leaders, and civil society organizations to assist security agencies in addressing the menace of drug and substance abuse among youths, which he lamented contributes to violent crimes and preventable loss of lives.
The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, called on the public to remain law-abiding, resolve disputes peacefully, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. The command reiterated its dedication to maintaining safety and order in the state.
