Uganda Daycare Tragedy: Man Poses as Parent, Stabs Four Children to Death
In a horrific incident that has shocked the nation, a knife-wielding man brutally stabbed four young children to death at a daycare centre in Kampala, Uganda. The attack occurred on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the Ggaba Early Childhood Day School located in Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division.
Suspect Gains Access by Posing as a Parent
Police have identified the suspect as Christopher Okello, who gained entry into the school by pretending to be a parent. According to authorities, Okello had visited the nursery the previous week to seek admission for a child, paid the required fees, and was instructed to return this week. This ruse allowed him access to the facility where he carried out the deadly assault.
Police spokeswoman Racheal Kawala confirmed the tragic event, stating, "We confirm a tragic incident at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program school in Makindye Division, Kampala City, where a male suspect brutally stabbed and killed four juveniles."
Details of the Attack and Victims
The attack targeted children aged approximately two and three years old. Among the 14 children present at the compound, the suspect fatally stabbed three boys and one girl. The other ten children survived the ordeal and have since been reunited with their parents.
The scene quickly descended into chaos as angry residents attempted to lynch the suspect as he tried to flee. Security forces intervened by firing tear gas to disperse the irate crowd and subsequently arrested Okello.
Investigation and Community Response
The motive behind the killings remains unclear, and police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack. Parents and loved ones gathered at the scene, overwhelmed with grief and sadness, as the community grapples with the devastating loss.
This incident highlights critical concerns regarding security protocols at educational institutions for young children. Authorities are urging increased vigilance and safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
