Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has publicly addressed the controversy surrounding the recent death of his female staff member, Mary Habila, at his Ebonyi residence. Speaking to journalists during a road inspection, Umahi clarified that the deceased and other workers resided in his guest house in Asokoro. He expressed shock that some individuals have twisted the narrative about the incident.
Umahi's statement on the incident
According to Umahi, “She also lived in a guest house in Asokoro where I stay alongside other workers. Somebody, whose hell is reserved for, is giving an impression that ‘runs girls’ were transported to our residence. The lawyers have been briefed and will take on the people that are evil and think they’re fighting for the freedom of the country. Because if you intentionally did it, the death of the young lady will be far far better than yours because everybody is called at the time of God.”
Background of the deceased
Umahi revealed that Mary Habila was a worker from the Federal University Teaching Hospital, seconded to his Ministry. Another female staff member, a physiotherapist, was also seconded to the Ministry and is from Benue state. He condemned those using the death to create content and deceive people, stating, “When you use the death of people to create content and deceive people, it means your time is up.”
Autopsy ordered
The Minister confirmed that he has ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The incident has sparked widespread discussion, with Umahi vowing to take legal action against those spreading false information. He emphasized that the death of the young lady would be investigated thoroughly.
