Woman Faces Court Over False Defilement Claims Against Husband
The Enugu State Police Command has officially confirmed the arrest and subsequent arraignment of a married woman who made false allegations claiming her husband had been sexually abusing their two young daughters.
According to police authorities, the case began when Okonkwo Chisom, a 29-year-old woman, filed a formal complaint at the Emene Police Division on November 25, 2025. In her statement, she accused her husband, Okonkwo Ozioma, of repeatedly defiling their two daughters, aged just 3 and 5 years old.
Investigation Reveals Contradictory Evidence
The police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, revealed that following the husband's arrest and what he described as a "diligent investigation," officers discovered significant inconsistencies in the woman's story. The investigation determined that Chisom's allegations were completely false and deliberately misleading.
Police investigators found that during the periods in 2024 and 2025 when Chisom claimed the abuse occurred, she had actually traveled alone with all the children to their hometown in Imo State, meaning the husband could not have committed the alleged crimes during those times.
More disturbingly, the case took a dramatic turn when the couple's 7-year-old son provided two separate handwritten voluntary statements that completely exonerated his father. The young boy disclosed that his mother had systematically coached him and his sisters to falsely accuse their father of the terrible crimes.
Attempt to Withdraw Case and Court Proceedings
As the investigation progressed and the truth began to emerge, Chisom reportedly attempted to withdraw the case and stop further police investigation. This move came when she realized the evidence was turning against her and the case would not proceed as she had intended.
Consequently, having failed to prove her allegations beyond reasonable doubt, Chisom Okonkwo was charged with defaming her husband and providing false and misleading information to the Police. She was arraigned before the Magistrate Court of Enugu State on a two-count charge of defamation and giving false information.
The court granted her bail, and the case has been adjourned for further hearing while police continue to examine the video evidence that supports the son's statements about being coached to make false allegations.
Police Commissioner Commends Investigators
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, publicly commended detectives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) for what he described as their "thorough and impartial investigation" of the sensitive case.
He reiterated the Command's commitment to fairness, justice, and professionalism in handling all cases, warning that any complainant found to have made false or malicious allegations would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
This case highlights the serious consequences of making false criminal accusations, particularly in sensitive matters involving child welfare and family relationships.
