Ghanaian security forces have apprehended 141 individuals, all believed to be Nigerian nationals, in a major crackdown on organised cybercrime networks operating in the country.
Coordinated Dawn Raids in Accra Suburbs
The arrests took place in the early hours of Saturday, December 27, 2025. The operation was a coordinated, intelligence-led swoop conducted simultaneously in the Lashibi and Tabora suburbs of Accra.
It was executed by the Cyber Security Authority of Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, National Security, and the Ghana Immigration Service.
Suspects and Seized Evidence
According to a statement by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samul Nartey George, the breakdown of arrests was 100 suspects in Tabora and 41 in Lashibi.
Law enforcement agents recovered a significant cache of devices suspected to be tools for the crimes. These include 38 laptops and 150 mobile phones.
In a related development, a Ghanaian landlord who allegedly accommodated about 100 of the suspects in his house was also taken into custody during the operation.
Alleged Criminal Activities and Official Warning
The suspects are alleged to have been involved in a range of cyber-enabled financial crimes. The offences listed by authorities include:
- Mobile Money (MoMo) fraud
- Romance scams
- Sextortion
- Business Email Compromise (BEC) scams
- Wire fraud
The Minister stated that forensic analysis of the seized devices is ongoing. Individuals found culpable will be processed according to Ghanaian law.
The statement concluded with a stern warning: "Ghana remains welcoming to all of our friends and neighbours interested in legitimate enterprise. However, if you are interested in committing a cybercrime, we will find you, arrest you, and deal with you decisively according to our laws."
