Court Dismisses Sowore’s No Case Submission

Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed the no-case submission filed by activist Omoyele Sowore in the alleged cyberbullying case against President Bola Tinubu, brought by the Department of State Service (DSS).

Court Ruling

The court ruled that Sowore has a case to answer, as a prima facie case has been established by the prosecution. The judge stated that Sowore must provide explanations to certain issues raised by the prosecution. The court also noted that Sowore used his social media handle to make a post, as testified by a prosecution witness.

Sowore’s Reaction

Reacting to the ruling on his no-case submission, Sowore, through his counsel, sought the judge's permission to address the court, which was granted. During his address, Sowore told Justice Umar that he lacked confidence in receiving justice from a court that had humiliated his counsel by ordering him to kneel and subjected him to various forms of harassment.

Sowore subsequently requested that Justice Umar recuse himself from the trial. The court has yet to rule on this request.
