The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has made a significant security breakthrough with the arrest of twelve suspected illegal immigrants in Ilorin. According to a statement released on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, by ASC 1 Ayoola Michael Shola, the corps spokesperson, the suspects were apprehended on Sunday, February 22, around 10:00 PM. The action followed a tip-off from vigilant members of the public, highlighting community involvement in security matters.

The individuals, all identified as nationals from Mali, include:

They were reportedly occupying a two-bedroom apartment in Akerebiata, rented through a local agent under circumstances deemed suspicious by authorities.

Items Recovered and Investigation Process

During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered several items, including:

  1. Nine mobile phones
  2. Two international passports
  3. Identification cards
  4. A wristwatch
  5. Keys
  6. Cash and other personal belongings

Commandant Bodinga of the NSCDC Kwara State Command emphasized that an in-depth investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the suspects' presence in Kwara. The probe aims to determine any potential criminal links or intentions to engage in unlawful activities, reflecting a thorough approach to national security.

Legal Procedures and Security Commitments

Upon conclusion of the investigations, the suspects will be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further action in accordance with existing immigration laws. This step ensures adherence to legal protocols and inter-agency cooperation.
