NDLEA Busts Drug Ring in Ogun, Seizes 1.6 Tonnes of Cannabis
NDLEA arrests 3, seizes 115 bags of cannabis in Ogun

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ogun State have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against illicit drugs, arresting three suspects and intercepting a massive consignment of cannabis.

Major Interception in Mowe Residence

The operation, which took place on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, was intelligence-driven. NDLEA officers stormed a residence in the Mowe area of Ogun State, where they caught the suspects in the act. Benedict Joseph Theaddues and two other individuals were allegedly loading bags of the illicit substance into two vehicles: a Toyota Sienna bus and a Hummer bus.

A total of 115 bags of Cannabis sativa, with an estimated combined weight of 1,600 kilograms (1.6 tonnes), were recovered from the scene. This seizure represents one of the major hauls by the command in recent times.

Command's Stern Warning to Traffickers

Confirming the arrest in a statement on Thursday, the Command's spokesperson, Mr. Harris Musa, emphasized the agency's unwavering commitment. He stated that the successful operation highlighted the command's high level of vigilance, intelligence capability, and firm enforcement posture.

"This interception emphatically reinforces the high level of operational vigilance, intelligence superiority, and uncompromising enforcement posture of the Command," Musa said. He added that it sends a clear message that Ogun State will not be a safe haven for drug trafficking activities, offering no respite or operational window for criminals at any time.

Continuation of a Sustained Crackdown

Mr. Musa stressed that the NDLEA Ogun Command remains resolute in its mandate to dismantle drug syndicates, suppress the circulation of illicit substances, and safeguard public health and security in the state.

This latest arrest follows closely on the heels of the command's previous disclosure of its 2025 record. Barely two weeks prior, the agency reported that it had:

  • Apprehended 760 suspects across Ogun State.
  • Seized over 6,060.72 kilograms of hard drugs.
  • Confiscated more than 2,655.75 litres of liquid-based illicit substances.

The consistent operations demonstrate a sustained and intensified crackdown on drug abuse and trafficking within the state, aiming to curb the menace and its associated social vices.
