The Ogun State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has struck a significant blow against drug trafficking with the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of a massive consignment of cannabis sativa.
Intelligence-Led Operation Nets Suspects
In a decisive operation on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, NDLEA operatives swooped on a residence in the Mowe area of Ogun State. The raid, which was intelligence-driven, led to the apprehension of Benedict Joseph and two other suspects.
The suspects were caught in the act of loading a huge quantity of illicit drugs into two vehicles: a Toyota Sienna bus and a Hummer bus. The seizure amounted to 115 bags of cannabis sativa, with a total weight of 1,600 kilogrammes (1.6 tonnes).
A Clear Message to Traffickers
The Command's spokesperson, Harris Musa, detailed the operation in a statement made available in Abeokuta. He emphasized that the successful interception was a testament to the agency's operational capabilities.
"This interception emphatically reinforces the high level of operational vigilance, intelligence superiority and uncompromising enforcement posture of the Command," Musa stated. He added that the arrest sends a clear and strong message to drug traffickers that there will be no safe haven, respite, or operational window for their illicit activities in Ogun State.
Sustained Fight Against Illicit Drugs
Musa reiterated the Command's unwavering commitment to its core mandate, which includes dismantling drug syndicates, curbing the circulation of illicit substances, and safeguarding public health and security within the state.
This major bust comes on the heels of a recent disclosure by the Ogun Command regarding its 2025 performance. The agency had earlier revealed that within that year, it arrested 760 suspects and confiscated over 6,060.72 kilogrammes and 2,655.75 litres of various hard drugs and liquid-based illicit substances. The latest seizure in Mowe underscores a continued and intensified offensive against the drug trade in the region.
