Navy Seizes 172kg of Cannabis in Lagos, Hands Over to NDLEA
NNS BEECROFT Intercepts 172kg of Illicit Drugs

In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has successfully intercepted and transferred a large consignment of illicit substances to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Swift Operation Based on Intelligence

The seizure occurred on November 24, 2025, when the NNS BEECROFT Quick Response Team, acting on credible intelligence, moved into action. The team intercepted a van suspected of transporting illegal drugs around the Ijegun waterside axis in Lagos. The swift and professional operation resulted in the confiscation of four bags of Cannabis sativa, with a total weight of approximately 172 kilograms.

Handover and Commitment to Collaboration

The formal handover of the seized narcotics took place recently. Representing the Commander of NNS BEECROFT, Rear Admiral P.P. Nimmyel, the Executive Officer, Captain Idongesit Udoessien, oversaw the process. The contraband was received by Deputy Commander of Narcotics (DCN) Morrison Udo, representing the NDLEA Marine Command, for further investigation and necessary legal action.

Captain Udoessien, in his remarks, framed the interception as part of the broader, sustained efforts by the Nigerian Navy under the leadership of Vice Admiral Idi Abbas. The focus is on clamping down on all forms of illegal activity within Nigeria's coastal waters, with drug trafficking being a major target.

A Unified Front for Maritime Security

The Nigerian Navy reiterated its unwavering commitment to collaborating with sister agencies like the NDLEA to protect the nation's maritime domain. This partnership is crucial for ensuring the safety of lives and property and for disrupting the networks that use the waterways for criminal enterprises.

Udoessien commended the vigilance and professionalism of the naval personnel involved in the operation. He also issued a call to the public, urging citizens to support the work of security agencies by providing timely and credible information. Such community cooperation is seen as vital for enhancing safety and security across Lagos State and the nation at large.

This successful operation underscores the ongoing vigilance of Nigeria's security forces in combating the scourge of illicit drug trafficking through strategic waterways.
