In a remarkable turn of events, thirty-eight worshippers from Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State have been released from captivity after five harrowing days with kidnappers. The victims, who were abducted during a church service on Tuesday, November 18, finally regained their freedom on Sunday, November 24.
Emotional Testimony in Dunamis Church
A female member of Dunamis International Gospel Centre gave an emotional testimony during a church service, celebrating the release of her sister and nephew who were among the kidnapped worshippers. The woman had previously informed her church congregation about the abduction following the Eruku church attack.
The testimony was captured in a video shared by Dunamis founder Pastor Paul Enenche on his X account, where the relieved woman explained how she received confirmation about her family members' release.
President Tinubu Announces Release
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu officially announced the worshippers' release through his X page on Sunday. The announcement came as a relief to families and community members who had been praying for the safe return of the victims.
The worshippers were kidnapped during a service at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku community, Kwara state, by suspected bandits. Their five-day ordeal in captivity ended on Sunday, though details about the circumstances of their release remain unclear.
Mixed Reactions from Nigerians
The news of the release sparked varied reactions across social media platforms. While many celebrated what they described as a miraculous deliverance, others questioned the role of government in securing the victims' freedom.
One social media user @revolveaanu commented: "Thank you Jesus for this miracle", while another user @MFrankduff expressed skepticism: "Mumu, if shi shi you no pay, you get money to pay before? Na government paid."
Pastor Enenche captioned the testimony video with powerful declarations: "Everything on the earth may fail, but God will never ever fail" and "We declare total restoration, divine recovery, and supernatural release on every side."
The incident has reignited conversations about security challenges in Kwara state and across Nigeria, particularly regarding attacks on worship centers. Meanwhile, Eruku residents were seen jubilating following the return of their community members.
