Bandits Invade Kaduna Community, Abduct Ten Residents Including Seven Family Members
In a brazen nighttime assault, armed bandits have abducted ten residents from Unguwar Sabon-Titi, a community situated along the Katari-Hayin Dam road within Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The incident unfolded around 9:32 PM on Thursday, April 2, 2026, marking another violent episode in the region's ongoing security challenges.
Details of the Attack and Abduction
Mr. Markus Yakubu, a resident of Katari, confirmed the abduction to Daily Trust via telephone on Friday morning. According to his account, a large group of bandits, armed with sophisticated weapons, surrounded a compound before entering and seizing seven members of a single family. The assailants then proceeded to a neighboring house, where they kidnapped three additional residents.
"The bandits came in a large number and surrounded my neighbor’s house," Yakubu recounted. "Some of them entered the compound and whisked away people, who are all members of one family. They later proceeded to the next house and carried three people."
Notably, the bandits operated quietly during the initial phase of the invasion, refraining from gunfire. Yakubu suggested this tactical silence was likely because the targeted house is located very close to the residence of the Katari Divisional Police Officer (DPO). "Actually the house of the DPO of Katari is close to the house the bandits attacked, which I believe is why they didn’t shoot in order not to attract his attention," he explained.
Victims Identified and Community Response
The abducted family members have been identified as:
- Jummai Amos
- Barnabas Amos
- Iko Amos
- Baby Amos
- Eunice Amos
- Eshiwan Amos
- Godwin Amos
The three other neighbors taken are Bagudu Damisa, Evelyn Damisa, and Alfred Iriyo.
Following the abduction, the bandits began releasing bullets as they moved the victims out of the town. In the aftermath, neighbors were seen trooping into the affected houses to offer sympathy and support to the grieving families, as captured in photos sighted by media outlets.
Security Challenges and Rescue Efforts
A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed receiving a distress call about the attack. He immediately attempted to contact security operatives in the area but was unable to reach them. "The very moment I received the call that bandits had invaded two houses at Unguwar Sabon-Titi, I quickly tried to reach out to security operatives but their numbers are not connecting," he lamented.
A security source from the area has also verified the abduction, confirming that operatives are currently combing nearby forests in an effort to trace the bandits' location and rescue the victims alive. This operation underscores the persistent and complex security threats facing communities in Kaduna State, where banditry and kidnapping remain critical concerns.
