Bandits Kill 13, Abduct Multiple Guests in Kaduna Wedding Attack

Suspected bandits have killed at least 13 persons and abducted several others following a brutal attack on a wedding ceremony in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The incident, which occurred on Sunday night at approximately 11:47 pm, has escalated fears over the deteriorating security conditions in rural communities across the region.

Chaotic Assault on Wedding Venue

Eyewitness reports indicate that the bandits arrived in large numbers, heavily armed with sophisticated weapons, and invaded the wedding venue. They opened fire on guests, creating widespread panic and confusion among attendees. A local resident, Shehu Bala, confirmed that numerous victims sustained gunshot injuries and were urgently transported to the General Hospital in Kagarko for treatment.

Those with critical conditions were referred to medical facilities in Kaduna for advanced care. Bala noted that the exact number of abducted individuals remains uncertain due to the chaotic nature of the assault, which left the community in disarray.

Looting and Prolonged Operation

A community leader, speaking anonymously, revealed that the assailants operated for nearly an hour without facing any resistance. During this time, the attackers also looted shops within the community, stealing food items, provisions, and medical supplies. This dual act of violence and theft has compounded the trauma for residents, many of whom fled their homes into nearby bushes as gunshots echoed throughout the area.

The victims of the attack have since been buried, while efforts to establish contact with the abductors have not yet yielded any results. The police in Kagarko have confirmed the incident, with security agencies actively working to determine the precise number of those kidnapped.

Official Responses and Ongoing Insecurity

DSP Hassan Mansur, spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, confirmed the development and assured that a comprehensive report will be released following preliminary investigations. In a show of solidarity, Deputy Governor Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe and Senator Sani Musa visited injured victims receiving treatment at the hospital in Kagarko.

This latest incident highlights the growing insecurity in parts of Kaduna State, where communities like Janjala face persistent threats. Notably, at least 14 persons abducted in the area three weeks ago remain in captivity, underscoring the ongoing challenges in combating banditry and ensuring public safety.
