Former Lawmakers Condemn Politicization of School Abductions
The National Forum of Former Legislators (NFFL) has issued a strong warning to opposition political parties against what it describes as the dangerous politicization of recent school kidnappings across Nigeria. The forum, led by Honorable Nnana Igbokwe, expressed deep concern about turning national tragedies into partisan attacks against the Federal Government.
In a statement released on November 24, 2025, Igbokwe criticized the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for what he called "deeply disappointing and insensitive" behavior. He accused the party of exploiting security challenges for political gain, emphasizing that such actions ultimately harm the safety and well-being of Nigerian children and their families.
Call for National Unity Amid Security Crisis
The former lawmaker stressed that Nigeria currently faces widespread insecurity that requires unity, cooperation, and constructive engagement rather than inflammatory rhetoric. "What is expected of any responsible organization or citizen is to offer meaningful solutions, proffer sound advice, and contribute to strategies that will combat insecurity," Igbokwe stated.
The NFFL also accused the PDP of promoting what it called "false narratives" and prioritizing public attention over lawful processes and internal discipline. The forum described the kidnapping incidents as "suspected sponsored criminal activities aimed at undermining the administration" and urged political actors and security agencies to remain focused on apprehending the perpetrators.
"Nigerians deserve responsible leadership, not divisive politics. Political actors must rise above partisan calculations and support every effort aimed at restoring peace, protecting children, and ensuring national stability," the NFFL declared in their official statement.
Presidential Security Updates and Rescue Operations
Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed that he is actively monitoring security situations across the country and receiving regular updates from the frontline. In a statement issued on Sunday, the President expressed satisfaction that 38 worshippers abducted by terrorists from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have regained their freedom.
President Tinubu revealed that he canceled his trip to the G20 summit in South Africa to coordinate security efforts at home. "Thanks to the efforts of our security forces over the last few days, all the 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State, have been rescued," the President announced.
Additionally, Tinubu expressed delight that 51 out of the missing students abducted by terrorists from a Catholic School in Niger State have been recovered. The President made it clear that he will not relent in his efforts, stating: "I am closely monitoring the security situation nationwide and receiving continuous updates from the frontline. Let me be clear: I will not relent. Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety — and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people."
The NFFL reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen security institutions, safeguard lives, and promote peace across Nigeria. The forum also commended President Tinubu for what it described as decisive leadership following the recent rescue operations.
