Kaduna Leaders Clarify: 31 Easter Worshippers Still Held Captive, Not Rescued

Community leaders in Kaduna State have firmly dismissed recent reports claiming that 31 individuals, who were abducted during an Easter church service in Ariko, Kachia Local Government Area, have been rescued by security forces. In a strong statement issued on Monday, the Kuturmi Development Association (KUDA) labeled these reports as "false, misleading, and not reflective of the current situation on the ground."

Official Statement Debunks Rescue Claims

The statement, jointly signed by KUDA President, Dr. Joseph David Ariko, and Publicity Secretary, Hon. Manasseh Samuel, directly contradicted earlier assertions that the abductees had been freed by soldiers. Instead, the association maintained that all 31 victims remain in captivity, with their families still in contact with the kidnappers. According to KUDA, the captors have confirmed that the victims have been taken to their camp, which "clearly invalidates any claim of a successful rescue operation."

Concerns Over Unverified Information

KUDA expressed deep concern over the spread of unverified information, warning that such reports could lead to confusion, raise false hopes among the affected families, and erode public trust in official communications. While acknowledging the ongoing efforts by security agencies, the association urged authorities, including the Nigerian Army, to ensure that only verified and accurate information is released to the public, particularly on sensitive matters involving human lives.

Call for Intensified Efforts and Solidarity

"The safe return of the abducted persons remains our utmost priority," the group emphasized, calling for intensified and coordinated efforts to secure their unconditional release. KUDA also expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and pledged to continue providing updates as credible information becomes available. This incident underscores the persistent insecurity challenges in parts of Kaduna State, where abductions by armed groups continue despite ongoing military operations.
