Conflicting reports have emerged from Kogi State regarding a security incident at Kiri High School in Aiyetoro Kiri, creating confusion among residents and the general public.
Government Denies Kidnapping Claims
The Kogi State Government has officially dismissed rumors that bandits invaded Kiri High School and abducted students on Wednesday morning, November 26, 2025. Security Adviser to the government, Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd), categorically labeled the kidnapping reports as false information.
According to reports from TVC News, Omodara revealed that the state government is actively tracking individuals responsible for spreading what he termed as fake news on social media platforms regarding the incident.
Local Chairman Confirms Casualties
Contrary to the state government's position, the Chairman of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, Barr. Zacheus Dare, provided a different account of the events. Speaking to Arise News, Dare confirmed that an attack did occur at the school premises.
The local government chairman stated that two people lost their lives when what he described as "suspended bandits" attacked Kiri High School. He specifically identified the victims as one hunter and another individual who were killed by stray bullets during the confrontation.
Security Response and Clarifications
Dare provided crucial clarification about the nature of the incident, emphasizing that no school children were kidnapped during the attack. He detailed the security response, noting that vigilantes and hunters successfully repelled the bandits' assault.
"There are two casualties. One hunter and one other person was killed through stray bullets. Nobody was kidnapped," Dare stated unequivocally. "We were there till daybreak. We are after them inside the forest. The joint security task force, both Soldiers, Police, and Local hunters, are after them right now."
The chairman made it clear that he wanted this important distinction on record: while the attack resulted in fatalities, no students were abducted from the educational institution.
This incident occurs against the backdrop of ongoing security challenges in various parts of Nigeria, including recent reports of gunmen abducting twelve female farmers in Borno State, highlighting the complex security landscape facing the nation.
