Lagos Govt Dismisses Fake Kidnapping Alert on Gbagada Expressway
Lagos dismisses fake kidnapping alert on Gbagada road

The Lagos State Government has once again dismissed claims of rising kidnapping incidents along the Gbagada Expressway, describing a circulating security alert as completely fake and misleading.

Government Official Debunks Fake Alert

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Lagos State, Gboyega Akosile, has strongly refuted a notification alleging increased kidnapping activities along the busy Gbagada Expressway. According to Akosile, the notification, which appeared in a flyer format and claimed to originate from the Lagos State government, is entirely fabricated.

The fake alert had warned residents about what it described as a "critical security alert" supposedly received from the Lagos State Police Command. It falsely claimed that kidnappers were using the notorious 'one chance' method and operating in 'Danfo' vehicles capable of carrying multiple passengers to target unsuspecting commuters.

Recycled False Information

Reacting to the resurgence of this false information, Akosile took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to warn Lagos residents. He stated: "Good morning Lagos, please beware of this fake news in circulation again! We've addressed it in the past, but purveyors of fakery are not tired of recycling this rubbish. Kindly ignore it. Thank you."

The Chief Press Secretary emphasized that this particular fake alert had been debunked numerous times in the past, yet continues to resurface through various channels, causing unnecessary panic among residents.

Capital City Race Traffic Plans

In separate development, the Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversion plans for the Y2025 Capital City Race scheduled for Saturday, 22nd November, 2025. The event will take place between 6:00 and 9:00 am.

The 10km race, organized by the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) in collaboration with the Capital City Race Organisers, will follow this route:

  • Start from Ikeja Shopping Mall
  • Through Billings Way to Kudirat Abiola Way
  • To Opebi link bridge, Adeniyi Jones
  • Oba Akran (LASUTH)
  • Ending at Arch Bishop Vining Memorial Church on Oba Akinjobi Way, Ikeja

Some roads, junctions, and intersections along the race routes will be partially closed to traffic during the competition and opened intermittently as the race progresses. Officers of the Nigerian Police, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be on duty to guide motorists and ensure safety.

Motorists are advised to exercise patience as the partial road closures are part of the comprehensive plan to manage traffic effectively during the Capital City Race event.
