Bandits terrorizing Kaduna State have escalated their criminal activities by publicly releasing photographs of an abducted Anglican priest and his wife while demanding a staggering N600 million ransom for their freedom.
The Abduction Incident
Ven. Edwin Achi of the Anglican Communion, Diocese of Kaduna, and his wife Mrs. Sarah Achi were violently taken from their residence in Nissi community, located within Chikun Local Government Area. The kidnapping occurred on October 28, 2025, when armed bandits invaded the peaceful community under cover of darkness.
The criminal elements later established contact with the victims' family, presenting what has been described as an "outrageous ransom demand" that has shocked the community and drawn national attention to the worsening security situation in the region.
N600 Million Ransom Demand
Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu has confirmed the ransom amount and shared the disturbing photographs released by the kidnappers. The bandits are demanding N600 million for the safe release of the religious leader and his spouse.
In the images circulated by the captors, other innocent victims can be seen alongside the Achis, indicating this kidnapping is part of a broader pattern of criminal attacks rather than an isolated incident. This revelation has heightened concerns about the scale of kidnapping operations in Kaduna State.
Growing Calls for Government Action
Gwamnishu has made an urgent appeal to both federal and state authorities, emphasizing the traumatic ordeal faced by the victims and their families. "Every day these victims remain in captivity is another day of trauma and uncertainty for their families and communities," he stated.
The activist specifically called upon the Federal Government, Kaduna State Government, and all relevant security agencies to intensify efforts toward securing the immediate release of all captives. He described the current situation as completely unacceptable and demanded swift, decisive intervention from security forces.
Ven. Edwin Achi is originally from Umuaja in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, though he has been serving in Kaduna where this tragic incident occurred. The continued captivity of the religious leader and his wife underscores the persistent security challenges facing many Nigerian communities despite government assurances of improved safety measures.
