Police Recover Rifles, Ammo in Delta Kidnapper Raid

In a significant victory against violent crime, the Delta State Police Command has successfully recovered high-calibre weapons and ammunition from suspected kidnappers following a daring intelligence-led operation.

Covert Operation in Upper Agbarho

The breakthrough occurred on January 11, 2026, around 9:35 p.m., in the Upper Agbarho area. Acting on credible intelligence that approximately six suspected kidnappers were using a bush path, operatives from the CP Special Assignment Team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Julius Robinson, swung into action.

In collaboration with local community vigilantes, the team executed a covert operation, cordoning off a hideout located within an uncompleted building. Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, detailed that the suspects immediately opened fire upon sighting the security forces.

"The operatives responded with superior firepower, forcing the hoodlums to flee with varying degrees of injuries," Edafe stated. The hurried escape led the suspects to abandon their arsenal at the scene.

Arsenal Seized from Fleeing Suspects

The police conducted a thorough search of the abandoned hideout, leading to the recovery of a dangerous cache of weapons. The recovered exhibits include:

  • One FNC rifle loaded with a round of live ammunition.
  • One pump-action gun alongside 32 rounds of live cartridges.

"All exhibits have been recovered and taken into custody, while a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects," Edafe confirmed, underscoring the command's determination to bring the criminals to justice.

Police Leadership Commends Bravery, Issues Warning

Reacting to the successful operation, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, praised the operatives for their bravery and the effective utilisation of intelligence. He reiterated the command's unwavering commitment to making the state inhospitable for criminals.

"The command remains resolute in denying criminal elements the space to operate," CP Adesola warned. "Delta State will continue to be hostile to all forms of criminality."

The Commissioner further assured residents that the protection of lives and property remains his top priority. He promised sustained intelligence-led operations and visible policing across the state to ensure public safety and deter future criminal activities.
