Kano Governor Applauds Military Efforts Against Bandits

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has publicly commended the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their rapid response to recent banditry attacks in parts of the state. The governor made these remarks during a meeting with military leadership at the Government House in Kano.

High-Level Security Meeting

The commendation came on November 10, 2025, when Governor Yusuf received the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Muhammad Wase. According to a statement issued by the Governor's spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the meeting focused on security assessments in affected areas.

General Wase explained that his visit to Kano served as a familiarity tour following his assumption of command at 1 Division. "I am here on a familiarity visit. Since assuming command at 1 Division, I have visited the scenes of recent attacks to commend our gallant officers," the GOC stated during the meeting.

Personal Connections and Security Assessments

The visit held personal significance for General Wase, who emotionally recalled his early days at the Kano Government House. His late father, Colonel Muhammad Abdullahi Wase, had served as Military Sole Administrator at the same location back in 1994.

The General Officer Commanding had traveled to Kano specifically to assess security situations in Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Councils, where recent banditry incidents had occurred. His on-ground assessment aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of current security measures in these vulnerable areas.

Substantial Support for Security Forces

Governor Yusuf expressed deep appreciation for the military's dedication and also extended gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing competent service chiefs committed to national security.

In a significant move to bolster security operations, the governor announced the donation of 10 Hilux trucks and 60 motorcycles to the Joint Task Force operating in the affected regions. This substantial contribution aims to enhance mobility and response capabilities for security personnel combating various crimes.

The governor reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to supporting security agencies in their fight against banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling activities threatening the peace and stability of Kano State.
