Prince Adewole Adebayo, the former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has strongly condemned the recent wave of killings and kidnappings targeting worshippers in Ekiti State. He described the incidents as a clear reflection of the worsening insecurity in Nigeria.
Condemnation of Attacks
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Adebayo expressed deep concern over the safety of citizens, particularly those attending religious gatherings. He stressed that Nigerians should not have to live in fear while practicing their faith. The SDP chieftain attributed the recurring attacks to what he termed a failure of governance, accusing authorities of falling short in their responsibility to protect lives and property.
Call for Security Reforms
Adebayo criticized the politicization of security institutions, arguing that undue interference has weakened their capacity to respond effectively to threats. He emphasized the need for professionalism, independence, and accountability within the nation's security framework. The politician called for reforms to strengthen internal discipline within security agencies, noting that misconduct should be addressed through established institutional processes rather than political influence.
He further stated that restoring public confidence in the security system would require structural reforms and leadership committed to transparency and results. Adebayo extended condolences to the victims and their families, urging authorities to take decisive action to curb the violence and ensure the safety of all citizens.
