Lagos Police Intensify Security at Schools, Worship Centers Amid Rising Threats
Lagos Police Boost Security at Schools, Worship Centers

The Lagos State Police Command has implemented enhanced security measures across educational institutions, religious centers, and other public spaces in response to growing security concerns nationwide.

Proactive Security Deployment Across Lagos

Police Commissioner Olohundare Jimoh announced the strategic deployment during a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Monday. The security reinforcement comes as a direct response to recent criminal activities recorded in neighboring states, including Kwara, Kebbi, and Niger.

"We want the general public to know that Lagos is safe and secure," Commissioner Jimoh assured journalists. "We have made additional deployments to all schools, places of worship, religious centres, and other locations frequently visited by people to ensure all worshippers are safe."

Extended Security Coverage Through Ember Months

The police chief confirmed that the enhanced security arrangements will remain operational throughout the ember months and extend into the New Year. This prolonged deployment aims to provide continuous protection for Lagos residents and visitors during the traditionally high-risk period.

Jimoh further disclosed that efforts are underway to strengthen the police tactical squad across all local government areas within Lagos State. The comprehensive security strategy addresses both immediate threats and long-term safety concerns.

Regional Response to Security Challenges

The security measures in Lagos coincide with broader regional concerns about public safety. Six Southwest governors recently convened for an emergency closed-door meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, following the attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti local government area of Kwara State.

In a positive development, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed the successful rescue of all 38 worshippers abducted during the Eruku church attack. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also verified that security forces had secured the release of all kidnapped individuals.

Commissioner Jimoh addressed additional crime trends in Lagos, noting that newly employed drivers and car wash attendants have been implicated in a recent wave of vehicle thefts across the state. The police are implementing targeted operations to address this emerging criminal pattern.

"This will continue into the New Year and beyond to ensure the safety of all Lagosians and other Nigerians coming into the state," Jimoh emphasized. "We don't have any concern to be worried about; we are beefing up security throughout the state."
