The Ogun State Police Command has issued a strong warning to individuals spreading false security information online, particularly those using the image of the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, to give their posts an air of legitimacy.
Police Condemn Unauthorized Use of CP's Image
In a statement released on Thursday, 4 December 2025, the command's Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Omolola Odutola, condemned the recent surge in what she described as unsolicited and deceptive security tips. She stated that these posts, often shared with the CP's photograph, are created without any authorization or approval from police headquarters in Abeokuta.
Odutola emphasized that these misleading alerts have falsely suggested a state of emergency or widespread insecurity in Ogun State, causing unnecessary panic among residents. She clarified that such acts not only mislead the public but also pose a significant security threat to the state.
Recycled Content and Divisive Language
The police spokesperson also expressed deep concern over another troubling trend. She revealed that certain individuals and groups are deliberately recycling old videos and publishing alarming content. These posts often use divisive language specifically designed to induce fear and create a sense of threat among the people of Ogun State.
"These mischief-makers are warned to desist from posting frightening videos, voice-overs, or unverified claims, the majority of which are false," Odutola stated firmly. She issued a direct warning to anyone behind such posts to stop what she termed "dastardly acts" or face the full consequences of the law.
Call for Calm and Assurance of Security
Despite the wave of fake news, the Police Command urged all citizens and stakeholders in Ogun State to remain calm and not give in to panic. Odutola provided reassurance, stating that the police are actively monitoring the situation.
"All areas identified by well-meaning communities seeking police attention are under close surveillance," she assured. The command has deployed additional personnel and assets to enhance safety and security in locations of concern, based on genuine reports from the public.
In a separate development, the Katsina State Police Command reported arresting 22 suspected armed robbers in various operations during November. Command spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed this while outlining achievements to newsmen on Wednesday.
The Katsina Command's report for the period included:
