Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Guto village, Bwari Area Council, following an intense gun battle that resulted in the death of one police officer.
Brave Response to Early Morning Attack
Approximately 30 armed bandits invaded the community in the early hours of Thursday, November 20, 2025, targeting a resident and his family for abduction. The criminal elements stormed the area with clear intentions to carry out another kidnapping operation that has become increasingly common in the region.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the Bwari Division's Surveillance Team and the Inspector General of Police Special Intervention Squad immediately mobilized to the scene upon receiving the alert. The rapid response demonstrated the police force's commitment to protecting residents despite the inherent dangers.
Intense Firefight and Casualties
According to official statements released via the FCT Police Command's X handle, the bandits opened fire immediately upon sighting the police team. The officers responded with superior firepower, engaging the attackers in a heated gun duel that lasted for several minutes.
During the exchange, police forces demonstrated remarkable courage and tactical proficiency, neutralizing two of the assailants while the remaining bandits fled into the surrounding bushes and mountains for safety. The successful repelling of the attack prevented what could have been another tragic kidnapping incident in the Federal Capital Territory.
Supreme Sacrifice and Ongoing Operations
Tragically, the operation came at a heavy cost as one police officer sustained fatal gunshot injuries during the confrontation. The officer was rushed to Bwari General Hospital where medical personnel confirmed his death. The police command expressed deep regret over the loss, acknowledging that the officer paid the supreme price while performing his duty to protect citizens.
In response to the incident, Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has deployed additional personnel to strengthen security in the area and has ordered a detailed investigation to ensure the fleeing perpetrators are apprehended.
