Police Officers Apprehended for Misconduct at Jimeta Checkpoint

The Adamawa State Police Command has taken two of its officers into custody following allegations of serious unprofessional behavior. The incident occurred at a security checkpoint situated near the River Side area in Jimeta.

Details of the Checkpoint Altercation

According to an official statement released by the command, the officers, who were deployed from the Jimeta Divisional Police Headquarters, had stopped a Mercedes Benz 180 for a routine search. The situation escalated when the vehicle's occupants reportedly resisted the officers' actions.

During the ensuing confrontation, one of the officers resorted to firing shots at the car's tyres. The police authority has since described this specific action as unnecessary, improper, and a direct violation of established disciplinary standards.

Investigation and Official Response

Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, was swift to respond, ordering a comprehensive investigation into the entire event. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the altercation.

The command's spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed from Yola, the state capital, that the officers are currently in police custody. They will remain detained pending the final outcome of the official inquiry.

CP Morris, through the statement, gave firm assurances to the public. He emphasized the command's unwavering commitment to enforcing appropriate disciplinary measures, while upholding the core values of professionalism, discipline, and respect for the rights of every citizen.
