The Ekiti State Police Command has officially declared that a disturbing video circulating on social media, which threatened attacks on two major universities in the state, is completely fabricated using Artificial Intelligence technology.
Police Investigation Reveals AI Manipulation
In a statement released on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, confirmed that authorities had conducted a thorough investigation into the viral video. The footage featured an individual posing as a bandit who specifically threatened to attack Ekiti State University (EKSU) and the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI).
The police investigation conclusively determined that neither the video nor the rumored attacks have any basis in reality. According to the statement, the video was artificially created using AI technology with the apparent intention of causing widespread panic and apprehension across Ekiti State.
Security Measures Implemented Across Institutions
Despite confirming the video as fake, the police command has taken proactive security measures to ensure public safety. Adequate security personnel have been deployed across the state, with particular focus on border towns, educational institutions, public and private infrastructure, worship centers, and identified security black spots.
The Command emphasized that these deployments are precautionary measures designed to maintain peace and protect citizens, regardless of the hoax nature of the viral video.
Public Reassurance and Call for Vigilance
Commissioner of Police CP Joseph Eribo has directly appealed to residents and students to disregard the false information and continue with their normal daily activities without fear. The police leadership assured the public that they remain committed to ensuring maximum security throughout the state.
However, the Command also encouraged citizens to maintain vigilance and promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the emergency contact numbers: 08062335577 and 09064050086.
The police statement concluded by urging everyone to remain law-abiding and to cooperate fully with security agencies working to protect the community.
