Soldiers Arrested for Assault on Woman, Vigilantes in Plateau

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have arrested two soldiers for their alleged involvement in an assault incident that left three vigilante members and a woman injured in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Incident Details

The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m. on May 28, 2026, at Kugiya in the Bukuru area, following a misunderstanding involving the confiscation of a motorcycle and the presence of suspected armed men.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, personnel from Sector 6 of Operation Safe Haven responded to a distress call. Upon arrival, they discovered that three vigilante members and a woman, identified as Mrs. Kaneng Nyang Bot, had sustained injuries during the altercation.

Arrest and Identification

Sources further disclosed that two soldiers were subsequently apprehended in connection with the incident. The arrested personnel were identified as Private Adam Saheed of the 123 Special Forces Battalion, who was reportedly on pass, and Gunner Mohammed Shuaibu of the 351 Artillery Regiment, attached to the 376 Artillery Regiment in Damaturu, whose pass had allegedly expired since April 24.

Preliminary Investigation

Preliminary investigation indicated that the incident arose from a misunderstanding involving the confiscation of a motorcycle by soldiers and some other individuals at the scene. The soldiers are currently in custody pending further disciplinary and administrative action.

Security authorities have launched a further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident to ensure appropriate measures are taken.
