TIM Calls for Inspector General Tunji Disu's Resignation Over Extrajudicial Killing
TIM Demands IGP Disu's Resignation After Delta Killing

The Take It Back Movement (TIM) has called for the immediate resignation of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu, holding him responsible for leadership failures within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). The demand follows the killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman in Effurun, Delta State, on April 26, 2026.

Incident Details

A viral video on April 28 showed the suspect, identified as musician Oghenemine Ogidi, also known as OG Millan, seated with hands tied behind his back before being shot by a police officer in mufti. The footage sparked widespread outrage, leading to protests by angry youths who blocked the Ekpan Police Station on April 30. Police dispersed them with tear gas after some protesters reportedly wielded clubs.

TIM's Statement

In an April 29 statement, TIM National Coordinator Juwon Sanyaolu condemned the violent crackdown on peaceful protesters demanding justice for Mene. The group declared: “We are deeply alarmed by credible reports that officers have resorted to tear gas and intimidation against unarmed citizens exercising constitutional rights. This is a gross violation of democratic norms.” TIM listed demands including IGP Disu's resignation, an independent investigation into Mene's killing, prosecution of ASP Usman, removal of Delta State police heads, and comprehensive police reforms.

Police Response

IGP Disu approved the dismissal and criminal prosecution of the errant officers, as announced by Force PRO DCP Anthony Okon Placid on April 29. All connected officers were withdrawn from Delta Command and transferred to Force Headquarters for disciplinary proceedings.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore also condemned the killing, warning of potential End SARS-style protests if impunity continues. He noted the officer was not in uniform and alleged involvement of former SARS operatives.
