Ten people have been rescued alive from the rubble of a three-storey building that collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos state on June 25. The rescued victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and were immediately handed over to medical personnel for treatment.
Incident Details
According to the General Manager of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, the collapsed building was a residential structure located at Old Ojo Road, by Alakija Bus Stop, off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Satellite Town, Lagos. Adeseye stated, 'The incident involves the collapse of a storey building, an existing residential structure occupied by multiple residents at the time of the incident. As of the time of this report, 10 persons have been rescued alive with varying degrees of injuries and have been handed over to medical personnel for necessary treatment.'
Emergency Response
Multiple emergency responders were at the scene, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Navy, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society. The coordinated efforts of these agencies facilitated the rescue of the 10 individuals. Search and rescue operations continued after the report to ensure no other victims were trapped.
