The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Babalola, has reiterated the Division's dedication to enhancing collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Zone 2 Lagos to improve security and road safety in Lagos and Ogun states. This commitment was expressed during a courtesy visit by the Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Mathew Olonisaye, to the 81 Division Headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Strategic Cooperation for Public Safety
Major General Babalola noted that the visit aligns with the Chief of Army Staff's Command Philosophy on Strategic Cooperation, emphasizing that no single agency can achieve security and safety alone. He highlighted the complementary roles of armed and unarmed security agencies in protecting citizens and maintaining public order. The GOC praised the Zonal Commanding Officer and FRSC Zone 2 Lagos personnel for their dedication and proactive efforts in ensuring road safety. He assured them of the 81 Division's full support in carrying out their statutory duties and wished them a successful tour of duty.
Strengthening Existing Ties
In his remarks, Assistant Corps Marshal Olonisaye explained that the visit aimed to familiarize himself with the GOC, officers, and soldiers of the Division, and to strengthen the long-standing cordial relationship between FRSC Zone 2 Lagos and the 81 Division. He noted that the Nigerian Army has consistently shown ownership and support for the FRSC, with some FRSC personnel benefiting from training opportunities within the Army. He also commended the Division's troops for their unwavering efforts in securing major routes, which has significantly boosted the Corps' operational effectiveness.
Call for Sustained Synergy
The Zonal Commanding Officer advocated for sustained synergy through joint operations, joint training exercises, and enhanced intelligence sharing between the two organizations. He stressed that the complementary roles of armed and unarmed security agencies are crucial for safeguarding citizens and maintaining public order. The visit underscores the ongoing collaboration between the military and road safety authorities to ensure safer roads in the region.
