The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has assured travelers and stakeholders that enhanced health surveillance measures are in place at international airports across the country following the recent Ebola outbreak reported in parts of Central Africa.
Strengthened Protocols in Collaboration with Health Agencies
In a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, on Wednesday, FAAN said preventive protocols had been strengthened in collaboration with Port Health Services, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, and other relevant agencies.
Intensified Surveillance for High-Risk Passengers
According to the authority, surveillance and monitoring activities have been intensified, particularly for passengers arriving from regions considered high-risk. FAAN said passengers are currently undergoing screening for Ebola-related symptoms, adding that any suspected case would be immediately isolated and subjected to further medical assessment in line with national and international health guidelines.
No Confirmed Cases in Nigeria
“While there is currently no confirmed case of Ebola in Nigeria, FAAN remains vigilant and fully committed to safeguarding public health and maintaining safe airport operations,” the statement said.
Reinforced Emergency Response Systems
The agency also disclosed that emergency response systems had been reinforced, staff sensitisation increased, and coordination with key stakeholders strengthened to ensure rapid intervention when required. These measures are part of FAAN's ongoing efforts to protect passengers and staff from potential health threats.
FAAN continues to work closely with international health organizations to monitor the situation and adapt protocols as needed, ensuring that Nigerian airports remain prepared for any health emergencies.
