Lagos Prosecutes 859 Traffic Offenders in CBD Crackdown

The Lagos State Government has confirmed the arrest and prosecution of 859 traffic offenders in the Lagos Island and Ikeja areas. This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts, Bola Olumegbon Lawal, during the 2026 Ministerial Briefing marking the third year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's second term.

Offences and Prosecution

According to Lawal, the offenders were prosecuted for various traffic violations, including illegal parking, unlawful U-turns, traffic light violations, and driving against traffic. Additionally, 24 tricycle operators were arrested and prosecuted for similar offences.

Commitment to Business Environment

Lawal emphasized that the Lagos State Central Business Districts (CBDs) have remained dedicated over the past year to improving the business environment and enhancing the quality of life for both residents and visitors. She noted that enforcing law and order within the districts has been challenging but necessary.

Challenges Faced

Lawal recalled that officials of the agency have faced attacks from individuals allegedly linked to the National Union of Road Transport Workers, as well as from hoodlums known as area boys. Despite these challenges, the agency has continued its operations.

Ongoing Activities

The agency has also engaged in training and retraining programmes, as well as safety and rescue operations across the districts, to ensure a safer and more orderly environment.
