Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has hosted a delegation from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and confirmed the deployment of surveillance aircraft to enhance security and tackle the rising cases of abduction in the state.
Meeting with NAF Delegation
The governor received the NAF team at the Government House in Ibadan on Thursday. The delegation was led by Air Vice Marshal Olusegun Ogunjobi, the Air Officer Commanding the Tactical Air Command. During the meeting, Makinde reiterated his administration's commitment to working with federal security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property.
Surveillance Aircraft Deployment
Makinde disclosed that the state government had already facilitated the deployment of surveillance aircraft to monitor criminal activities, particularly in areas prone to kidnapping and banditry. He noted that the aircraft would provide real-time intelligence to security operatives on the ground, enabling swift responses to distress calls.
The governor praised the NAF for its professionalism and dedication to duty, urging them to sustain their efforts in combating insecurity. He also assured the delegation of continued support from the Oyo State Government in terms of logistics and other necessary resources.
Security Challenges in Oyo State
Oyo State has witnessed a surge in abduction cases in recent months, with several high-profile kidnappings reported across the state. The deployment of surveillance aircraft is part of broader measures by the state government to address these challenges. Other initiatives include the establishment of a security trust fund and the recruitment of more Amotekun operatives.
NAF's Response
Air Vice Marshal Ogunjobi commended Governor Makinde for his proactive approach to security. He assured the governor that the NAF would continue to collaborate with the state government to ensure that criminals are brought to justice. The delegation also inspected facilities at the Ibadan Air Base as part of their visit.
The meeting underscores the importance of synergy between state governments and federal security agencies in tackling insecurity across Nigeria. With the deployment of surveillance aircraft, Oyo State is poised to enhance its surveillance capabilities and reduce the incidence of abduction and other violent crimes.
