MFM Bans Night Vigils, Orders Early Church Closure

The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) has instructed all its branches across Nigeria to conclude church programmes by 8:00 p.m. and suspend vigils and overnight meetings until further notice. The decision, announced in an internal memo dated 5 June 2026, was made in response to escalating security concerns nationwide.

New Directive Details

The memo, signed by Temitope A. Olawale, the church's Director of Administration at the international headquarters in Lagos, emphasized that all services, meetings, and activities must end no later than 8:00 p.m. Vigils and overnight prayer programmes are suspended indefinitely. Where necessary, vigils may be converted into evening prayer sessions, provided they conclude by the stipulated time.

Implementation and Compliance

The directive has been circulated to Principal Regional Overseers, Senior Regional Overseers, Mega Regional Overseers, zonal pastors, and branch pastors for immediate implementation. The church stated that the measures are precautionary and mandatory, aimed at safeguarding the lives and well-being of members amid the current security realities in the country. All ministers, groups, and departments are required to strictly comply.

Background and Context

Nigeria has witnessed a rise in attacks on religious gatherings and places of worship by terrorists and criminal groups, prompting religious organizations, schools, and businesses to adopt additional safety measures. MFM, one of Nigeria's largest Pentecostal denominations with branches both locally and internationally, has taken this step to protect its congregation. The directive will remain in force pending further review by the church's leadership.
