NDLEA 24-hour drug addiction helpline: Free, confidential support

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operates a toll-free helpline, 0800 1020 3040, providing free, confidential counselling and referrals for Nigerians struggling with drug addiction. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the service connects callers to qualified mental health professionals who offer support in English, Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba, without fear of arrest or stigma.

How the NDLEA helpline works

Callers can dial 0800 1020 3040 at any time, free of charge, from any local network. The call is answered by a team of clinical professionals, including psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychotherapists, and counsellors. They provide immediate psychological first aid and de-escalate crises. If long-term treatment is needed, the experts refer callers to a network of over 30 functional rehabilitation centres integrated into NDLEA state commands across Nigeria.

Language accessibility and anonymity

The helpline is language-sensitive, offering immediate response in Pidgin English, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and formal English. The NDLEA assures that calls are completely confidential and anonymous. Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, Chairman of the NDLEA, stated that "one of the things the agency has done to encourage them to seek help is setting up this call centre... anyone can sit in the comfort of their homes and get assistance." The focus is therapeutic, not punitive.

Overcoming fear of arrest

Many Nigerians avoid seeking help due to fear of arrest. The NDLEA emphasizes that the helpline is a safe space, and callers will not be prosecuted. The service treats addiction as a public health issue, not a crime, encouraging early intervention and recovery.
