Nigerian troops, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), successfully destroyed terrorist camps in Sambisa Forest, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno state, on June 19, 2026. The operation, carried out by troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison, dealt a significant blow to insurgent activities in the region.
ISWAP fighters flee as troops advance
Security sources confirmed that the joint team advanced into the Sambisa Forest axis and targeted identified hideouts believed to belong to terrorist groups. During the operation, troops encountered suspected ISWAP fighters at Disa and Balangaje villages. The insurgents reportedly fled upon sighting the advancing military personnel. The troops proceeded to destroy the camps and logistical support facilities used by the terrorists for shelter, planning, and coordination.
No casualties recorded
Military authorities stated that the mission was completed without any casualties among the personnel involved. This operation is part of sustained efforts to deny terrorist groups freedom of movement and dismantle their operational networks within Sambisa Forest.
