The Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) has condemned the suspected murder of Elder Omotayo Ezekiel Fajana, a prominent leader of the Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Church, whose lifeless body was discovered in a hotel room in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.
NTDA demands thorough investigation
In a statement issued in Abuja by Blessing Adegun of the Press and Public Relations unit, the Director-General of the NTDA, Mr. Ola Awakan, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the deceased's family, the C&S Church, and the people of Akungba-Akoko. Awakan described the circumstances surrounding the death as disturbing, noting that reports of the handling of the deceased's remains without proper medical certification and allegations of suspicious activities raised serious concerns about safety and security within the country's hospitality sector.
He said such incidents have the potential to erode public confidence in hospitality establishments and must not be overlooked. While commending the Ondo State Police Command for arresting three suspects in connection with the case, the NTDA boss called for a thorough, transparent, and professional investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.
NTDA boss calls for justice
“We must uncover the full circumstances of this death, track the unauthorized movement of the body and expose any potential lapses or complicity,” Awakan said. According to him, ensuring justice was essential to reassure the public and prevent negligence or criminal activities within the sector. He reaffirmed that the safety and security of guests remain a top priority for the Authority, adding that the NTDA is collaborating with law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to protect visitors and tourists across the country.
Awakan further disclosed that the Authority would reactivate its nationwide monitoring exercises in partnership with state governments to ensure strict compliance with safety standards in hospitality facilities. He reiterated the NTDA’s commitment to working with hotel operators, security agencies, and community leaders to promote a safe, responsible, and thriving tourism industry in Nigeria.
