The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has announced the establishment of a police post around the Ibogun campus of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU). This initiative aims to enhance inter-agency collaboration and strengthen community policing in the area.
Assessment Visit and Strategic Engagement
During an assessment visit to the campus, Commissioner Ojajuni was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Bolanle Muritala, and the Area Commander, Ifo, ACP Seyi Williams. Upon arrival, he held a strategic engagement with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ayodeji Johnson Agboola; the Provost of the College of Engineering and Environmental Sciences, Prof Bashir Olufemi Odufuwa; His Royal Highness, Oba Timothy Sowumi, the Olu of Ibogun-Sowumi; as well as principal officers of the institution and community leaders.
Stakeholder Concerns and Collaborative Solutions
The engagement also included the Student Union Government leadership and students, who jointly presented their concerns about security within the campus and host community. The school management and community representatives echoed these concerns, and all parties agreed on the need for coordinated and practical solutions to address the identified security challenges.
Enhanced Security Measures
The Commissioner assured stakeholders that the Command has assessed the security situation and will immediately strengthen policing around the university and adjoining communities. He emphasised increased patrols, proactive policing strategies, and sustained engagement with stakeholders as part of efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment. He also engaged sister security agencies, including the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun Corps, and So-Safe Corps, to improve collaboration for effective security coverage of the area.
Visit to Divisional Headquarters
The Commissioner further visited the Ibogun Divisional Police Headquarters, where he interfaced with officers of the division, assessed operational readiness, and issued directives aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to community policing, inter-agency synergy, and continuous engagement with stakeholders in sustaining peace and security within Ogun State.
