Teen Killed, 3 Wounded in Graduation Shooting

An 18-year-old was killed and three others were injured in a shooting that occurred after a high school graduation ceremony in Fairfield, California, authorities said.

Police responded to the shooting in the parking lot of Fairfield High School at around 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, according to Officer Michelle Belyea of the Fairfield Police Department. The school is located about 50 miles northeast of San Francisco.

The wounded victims included an 11-year-old child and two adults aged 20 and 25, Belyea said. The deceased victim was an 18-year-old who succumbed to injuries sustained during the incident.

“This is a very active incident,” Belyea said, adding that an investigation is underway. She noted that there is no information to suggest any ongoing threat to the community at this time.

Three of the victims were transported to local hospitals, while the 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The conditions of the injured victims remain unclear.

The shooting took place at the conclusion of a graduation ceremony for Sem Yeto High School, which was being held at Fairfield High School, according to reports from KTVU and CBS News.

“It's a very scary incident when something like this does happen, especially during the end of a school event,” Belyea said. “So, obviously, we just want everyone to be safe.”
