A tragic road accident claimed four lives on Saturday night when a commercial bus plunged into Ososa river along the busy Sagamu-Ijebu Ode expressway in Ogun State.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The unfortunate event occurred on November 15, 2025, when a Hilux van carrying six passengers lost control and plunged into the river. According to Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the incident happened during the night hours, making rescue operations particularly challenging.
Fasakin confirmed the tragedy on Sunday, revealing that two of the six occupants managed to survive the accident by swimming to safety. The remaining four passengers, however, were not as fortunate and drowned in the river.
Rescue Operation and Recovery
Local divers played a crucial role in the rescue operation, working tirelessly to recover the bodies of the deceased from the river. Their efforts were instrumental in retrieving all four victims from the submerged vehicle.
The FRSC commander confirmed that the bodies have been deposited at a morgue in Ijebu-Ode, and the vehicle involved in the accident has been successfully removed from the river. This swift action helped restore normal traffic flow along the important transportation corridor.
FRSC Safety Warning
Commander Fasakin used this tragic incident to issue a strong warning to motorists plying Ogun State roads. He emphasized the importance of careful driving and adherence to safety regulations to prevent similar unfortunate situations.
The Sagamu-Ijebu Ode expressway has witnessed several accidents in recent times, raising concerns about road safety measures and driver behavior along this critical route connecting major economic hubs in southwestern Nigeria.
