FRSC Deploys Eid Patrols Nationwide, Yobe Enhances Security

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has initiated a comprehensive nationwide deployment of personnel and operational resources for its 2026 Eid el-Fitr special patrol operations. This strategic move is designed to enhance road safety and facilitate smooth traffic flow during the festive period, which spans from March 17 to March 22, 2026.

FRSC's Nationwide Safety Campaign

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed emphasized that this operation is a core component of the FRSC's statutory mandate to promote safer road usage across Nigeria. In a statement released on Monday, Corps Public Education Officer Felicia Kalu detailed that the special patrol will feature increased visibility of patrol units, strategic positioning of rescue teams, and intensified public enlightenment campaigns aimed at educating motorists ahead of the Sallah celebrations.

Mohammed highlighted that the primary objectives include reducing the incidence of road crashes and ensuring that major highways remain free from congestion. The FRSC's efforts are expected to provide critical support to travelers, reinforcing the importance of adherence to traffic regulations during this high-volume travel season.

Yobe State's Proactive Security Measures

Concurrently, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has issued directives for security agencies to implement proactive measures to safeguard lives and property throughout the Eid el-Fitr festivities. Represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, Governor Buni made this announcement during an expanded security meeting held in Damaturu on Monday.

He urged security operatives to maintain a visible presence across all 17 local government areas in Yobe State and to enhance surveillance along border communities. Governor Buni stressed the necessity of intelligence-led patrols and improved collaboration among various security formations to prevent criminal elements from exploiting the festive period for illicit activities.

Police Commissioner's Assurance and Enforcement Actions

Following the meeting, Yobe State Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ado briefed journalists, noting that the session reviewed recent security breaches in neighboring states and assessed local vulnerabilities. Ado described the state as relatively calm but affirmed that comprehensive measures have been established to ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration.

He also announced the enforcement of a ban on vehicles operating without number plates or with covered plates, citing this practice as a significant security risk. This measure is part of broader efforts to maintain order and prevent potential threats during the celebrations.

The combined initiatives by the FRSC and Yobe State authorities underscore a coordinated approach to public safety during Eid el-Fitr, addressing both road safety and general security concerns to protect citizens nationwide.
