FRSC Intensifies Easter Traffic Management with Marshal Deployments in Ogun State

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun State Sector Command has ramped up its efforts for effective traffic control during the Easter period. Regular and Special Marshals have been strategically deployed across major roads throughout the state to ensure smooth traffic flow and reduce the risk of accidents during and after the Easter celebrations.

Commander's Statement on Safety Initiatives

Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, the Sector Commander, emphasized that this deployment is designed to guarantee safe, seamless, and uninterrupted movement for all motorists throughout the festive season. Fasakin reiterated the position of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, highlighting that the operation is crucial due to the expected increase in vehicular and human traffic as Nigerians join the global Christian community in observing Easter.

  • Overloading and mix-loading, which involves transporting passengers alongside goods.
  • Lane indiscipline and the use of mobile phones while driving.
  • Mechanical deficiencies, tyre violations, and non-compliance with seat belt and child restraint regulations.

Operational Resources and Local Strategies

Commander Fasakin has activated 24-hour patrol, rescue, and traffic management services, supported by a fleet of patrol vehicles, ambulances, and tow trucks. Additionally, he directed the Acting Unit Commander of Ota, Chief Route Commander Wasiu Ogunmefun, to implement strategic traffic realignment at the Old Toll Gate along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. This initiative involves:

  1. Closing illegal U-turns and highway access points by realigning knocked-down road kerbs.
  2. Conducting vehicular traffic counts to gather data for future policy development and research purposes.

Public Safety Advisory

Fasakin urged the motoring public to take personal responsibility for their safety, stating, "It is only the living who celebrate." He advised drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and to avoid distracted driving practices to prevent accidents during this busy period.
