Katsina Deploys 15 Modern Ambulances on Major Highways for Emergency Response
Katsina Stations 15 Ambulances on Major Roads

In a significant move to enhance emergency healthcare on its highways, the Katsina State Government has unveiled a fleet of fifteen state-of-the-art ambulances for deployment along major roads. The initiative aims to provide swift medical response to accident victims and other emergencies.

Government's Proactive Step for Road Safety

The Chief of Staff to Governor Dikko Radda, Mallam Abdulkadir Nasir, officially received the vehicles at the Government House in Katsina on Monday, 5th January 2026. He explained that the decision was driven by the inevitability of road accidents, often caused by human error, reckless driving, overloading, and unpredictable actions by pedestrians or animals.

Nasir highlighted that the state's extensive road construction and rehabilitation projects over the past two years have led to increased traffic volume. While improved roads are beneficial, the accompanying rise in usage sometimes results in unavoidable collisions. "It is because of this that the government decided to purchase these ambulances and deploy them along major roads so that they can be among the first responders whenever accidents occur," he stated.

Coordination and Strategic Deployment

The government plans to constitute a dedicated committee to manage the judicious use of the ambulances. This committee will coordinate operations with key agencies like the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to ensure an integrated emergency response system across the state.

This safety intervention follows a series of high-profile road incidents involving state officials. In July last year, Governor Dikko Radda was involved in an accident on the Daura-Katsina Road. His vehicle was again in a collision in December, with the Chief of Staff and two others on board. On that same day, the governor's convoy encountered another accident scene, prompting him to order the immediate hospitalization of the victims.

Similarly, the Deputy Governor, Farouk Jobe, was involved in an accident along the Kaduna-Katsina Road in December. While the governor sustained minor injuries in the first incident, other related crashes reportedly led to at least five fatalities and injuries to seventeen individuals.

The strategic placement of these fifteen modern ambulances is expected to drastically reduce emergency response times, offering critical, life-saving intervention to travelers across Katsina's major transit routes.
