The Lagos State Government has announced plans for a temporary night-time traffic diversion along two major corridors to facilitate the installation of truck-restriction barriers. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance traffic control and improve safety on the state's busy roads.
Details of the Traffic Diversion Plan
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated that the diversion will affect the Fadeyi–Donmanlong and Donmanlong–Ojuelegba corridors. The closure is scheduled to begin at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, and will last until 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Osiyemi explained that the specific bridge sections where the work will occur will be completely closed to all traffic during this eight-hour window. The government deliberately chose to carry out the installation overnight to minimize disruption to the vast number of daily commuters and local businesses that rely on these routes.
Alternative Routes for Motorists
To ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the closure, the government has provided a detailed alternative route. Motorists who usually travel from the Fadeyi Donmanlong Bridge or Ayilara toward Ojuelegba are instructed to use the following diversion:
- Use the service lane via Fadeyi.
- Proceed through Jibowu and Empire to Donmanlong.
- Finally, connect through Barracks Road to reach their destinations.
Authorities are urging all drivers to strictly adhere to this prescribed alternative route and follow instructions from traffic management officials on the ground.
