A tragic road accident on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has resulted in the death of two individuals. The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) confirmed the fatal crash occurred in the early hours of Friday.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The accident involved a Mazda bus with registration number YNF 414 XN. According to the TRACE Spokesperson, Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the crash happened around 1:30 am near Oremeji Bus Stop. The vehicle, which was transporting live chicks, reportedly lost control due to excessive speed, collided with a road barrier, and somersaulted.
Both adult male occupants of the vehicle—the driver and the conductor—died instantly at the scene. No other injuries were recorded from the lone accident.
Aftermath and Investigation
Following the crash, operatives from TRACE, the Nigeria Police Force's Ibafo Motor Traffic Division, and the Ogun State Emergency Services (OGSAES) swiftly responded. The damaged bus was towed away by the police for further investigation.
The remains of the two victims were taken to the morgue at Divine Touch Hospital in Ibafo. While rescue operations briefly affected traffic flow on the expressway, officials from TRACE and the police worked to restore normal movement promptly.
Related Security Breakthrough in Nasarawa
In a separate development on Friday, the Nasarawa State Police Command announced a significant success against kidnapping. Six suspected kidnappers were arrested, and three victims were rescued in the Lafia East Development Area of Lafia Local Government Area.
The operation, conducted in collaboration with local vigilantes, targeted hideouts in Angara and Fadaman Bauna villages. The rescue followed a complaint filed on January 7, 2026, concerning the abduction of two females and a later kidnapping of a male from Angara village.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Ramhan Nansel stated that Commissioner of Police CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed ordered an immediate manhunt. The rescued victims—two females and one male—were found unhurt, given medical attention, and reunited with their families. The suspects have confessed and been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for prosecution.
These incidents underscore ongoing concerns about road safety on major Nigerian highways and the persistent security challenge of kidnapping in certain regions.
